In December 2018, Amnesty published a report entitled, ‘Blood-soaked Secrets,’ that accused Iran of carrying out the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988.
Much of the evidence used in the report was based on the testimonies of members of the People’s Mujahedin who are now resident at a camp complex located in Albania, just outside of the capital, Tirana.
According to the report, Amnesty’s researchers,”undertook three field trips to Tirana, Albania, where a substantial number of survivors and family members are based.”
However, many reports indicate that human rights abuses take place at this camp and that members are allegedly subjected to indoctrination and torture.
An NGO, the Nejat society, which represents the families of members of the People’s Mujahedin who have been denied access to meet them, has complained that Amnesty should never have been complicit in human rights abuses that occur at the camp by approaching members that have likely offered testimonies under duress.
Iran Interlink, a charity run by two former members of the People’s Mujahedin, has also lent weight to the criticism by the Nejat Society of Amnesty for visiting the camp in order to elicit information.
Members of the MEK in Albania
As the world rings in the New Year, hostages of the Mujahedin Khalq (the MKO, MEK, PMOI, the Cult of Rajavi) residing in Camp Ashraf 3 near Tirana, Albania still wait for the promises of their masters to come true. Actually their 40 -year-old promise is the overthrow of the Islamic Republic.
The promise has been repeatedly stated by the MEK’s foreign sponsors including from Saudi Arabian prince Turkie Faisal to US president’s national security advisor John Bolton. John Bolton is estimated to have received 180000 $ for only one year (2017) of lobbying for the MEK.
Therefore it was no surprise to see Bolton so excited to flatter the MEK leaders. In July of 2017, the MEK’s paid supporter gave a speech at the group’s so-called Grand Gathering of Iranians for Free Iran in which he openly called for regime change in Tehran.
“There is a viable opposition to the rule of the ayatollahs, and that opposition is centered in this room today,” he uttered at the gathering in front of Maryam Rajavi. “I had said for over 10 years since coming to these events, that the declared policy of the United States of America should be the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime in Tehran. The behavior and the objectives of the regime are not going to change, and therefore the only solution is to change the regime itself. And that’s why, before 2019, we here will celebrate in Tehran!”
Now that 2018 is gone, John Bolton is not able to rationalize his unfulfilled promise as well as the MEK leaders whose annual promise is the overthrow of the Iranian government at the beginning of the Persian New Year.
However, naturally Bolton’s speech receives more attention as he is definitely a more influential figure than the MEK leaders. BBC Persian’s NYC/UN correspondent, Bahman Kalbasi’s ironic tweet on the New Year ’s Eve recalls the shallowness of claims of the MEK and its paid sponsors:
There is still a few hours left before John Bolton runs out of time to fulfill his promise to celebrate with a group that used to be on US terror list for almost 2 decades in #Tehran, #Iran. #2019
The post was retweeted 181 times and was likes by 666 people. The comments on the post are also worth reading.
It is obvious that John Bolton is considered as a stupid warmonger politician who supports the traitors to Iran, the violent Mujahedin Khalq Organization that has almost no popular base in Iran.
“It would be hard to find a serious observer who believes the MEK has the capacity or support within Iran to overthrow the Islamic republic,” states Arron Merat of the Guardian. “But the US and UK politicians loudly supporting a tiny revolutionary group stranded in Albania are playing a simpler game: backing the MEK is the easiest way to irritate Tehran.”

A Live debate, ‘360 degrees’ hosted by Artur Zheji on Ora News asked – “2019, the best year for Albanians?” Guests included historians Dr Olsi Jazexhi and Dr Elena Kocaqi who both explained why the presence of the MEK terrorist group was damaging for their country. The corrupting and interfering presence of MEK in Albania is causing a backlash in civic society as well as damaging the political life of the country. After the independent reports of various UK and American media, the people of Albania now know who they are dealing with.
Historian Elena Kocaqi speaking on “360 Degrees” at Ora News, considers it wrong that the Iranian Mojahedin were taken in by Albania.
Kocaqi: Our government should not be involved at all with issues relating to Iran, and for me, the Mojahedin should not have been taken in by Albania at all. Taking thousands of people and thereby importing conflict is, for me, very wrong. Albanians have been so persecuted in the last two centuries, even by Europe, there is nowhere to go. Normally there would be a rise and not a drop, and you will protect those few Albanians who left Europe. The Albanian factor keeps the balance in the Balkans and is much more important than we think. From the secret letters of Austro-Hungary, they linked their empire to the existence of the Albanian nation. We will also become part of Europe.

The expulsion of the Iranian ambassador from Albania by order of the US Security Adviser John Bolton is an act that has seriously shaken Albanian politics. The Albanian government of Prime Minister Rama, Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati and President Ilir Meta not only did not welcome the dictates of John Bolton, but until now have not made any official statement to welcome the expulsion of the ambassador. The fearful Albanian politicians have no other choice but to obey the American government which, after settling the Iranian Mojahedin terrorist organization there, is turning Albania into a second Afghanistan where the country is a battlefield between the MEK jihadists and Iran.
In the IMPAKT show, attorney Migena Balla, who has defended clients who have been raped by Maryam Rajavi’s cult, discusses with investigative journalist Gjergji Thanasi, analyst Alfred Cako and historian Dr Olsi Jazexhi the most recent diplomatic scandal in Albania that came after America commanded Albania to expel the Iranian ambassador from the country. Gjergji Thanasi, who knows the MEK well, shows that the decision to expel the Iranian ambassador was an American decision that did not bring Albania any benefit except for Edi Rama who hopes to organize a meeting with Trump and allow a free run by Americans to transport drugs. Speaking as a nationalist, Thanasi asks: what has Albania gained from this ban?
Dr Olsi Jazexhi, who has written for the international media about the risk that MEK has brought to Albania, exposes the fake news campaign that MEK is running from their Manza paramilitary camp and shows that the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador was in fact a demand that the terrorist group has been making in Albania for several months. Dr Jazexhi blames the MEK for this diplomatic scandal and analyses the defamatory campaign that MEK is running from Albania which accuses Iran of committing terrorist acts in Europe. He points out that the organization, which was brought to Albania on humanitarian grounds, has now hijacked Albanian politics and this group of magicians with their so-called president Maryam Rajavi are behaving as though they are kings of Albania and not some victims that began by wailing and seeking shelter and help.
Alfred Cako, who analyses Albania’s fealty to the great powers, exposes the war that is happening today in the US administration between the Zionist Jews and the American Trump administration. Cako thinks Trump is playing with Zionist extremists, and the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador was part of this game as Trump is co-operating behind the scene with Putin and Russia to end the rule of Jewish Zionists in the world and the US. During the debate Dr Jazexhi explained that MEK has not only managed to establish a firm hold in Albania, but demonstrates how, from its paramilitary camp, the MEK is organizing a fake news campaign, a campaign through which this group – which holds its members hostage, threatens the media, radicalizes its members, calls for jihad against Iran and which has in the past has committed acts of terrorism and murder – ironically presents itself as an Iranian opposition. The historian concludes that the MEK’s defamatory campaign is crazy since the MEK is a terrorist organization and the people of Iran do not see MEK as an Iranian opposition because Iran has democracy and hundreds of political parties take part in elections which divide power.
Gjergji Thanasi, who has been studying the MEK for years, explained how MEK has managed to build a state within the state in Albania. They have managed to take control of the police, the border, and carry out illegal acts in the country, while the Albanian government behave like fools in front of this elderly terrorist group. After visiting Iran several days ago, he shows how the government there serves the people of Iran and is more democratic and humane than the ruling government of Edi Rama and Pandeli Majko, and that the dreams of Maryam Rajavi and John Bolton for insurrection to overthrow the regime in Iran are in vain.
Returning to the local context, Dr Jazexhi shows how the MEK began scheming to influence Albanian domestic politics. They complain to the Americans against the government of Edi Rama and have begun to exploit the opposition’s position for their own interests. In the global context, Alfred Cako sees the US ambassador’s expulsion as part of a two-scenario game that Trump is playing against Iran. One scenario is that Trump might want to hit out at Iran, while the second scenario may be that the US government may sooner or later attack the Iranian Mojahedin, who are currently Israel’s forces, but that one day the Americans could expel from Albania.
The conclusion of the debate is that Albania has major problems with hosting these Iranian terrorists in the country, and the expulsion of the US ambassador was a scandal of international proportions. This scandal exposed Albania’s weakness and servility before the Americans, the threat that the MEK constitutes for the stability of Europe and Albania, and how the MEK’s fake news campaign has placed the country in a scandalous diplomatic situation.

Tehran has denounced Albania for expelling two Iranian diplomats, saying the Balkan country fell prey to a scenario fabricated by the US and Israel.
Albania’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that it had expelled two Iranian diplomats suspected of “involvement in activities that harm the country’s security.”
A ministry spokesman told the Associated Press that the expulsions followed talks with others, including Israel.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Thursday that Albania’s move was “in line with previous such scenarios meant to damage Iran-Europe relations at the current sensitive juncture.”
He said the expulsions come while Tehran has “always had appropriate relations with Albania and respected all of its domestic regulations in a move based on principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy.”
US National Security Adviser John Bolton was quick to publicly support Albania’s decision.
“We stand with PM [Edi] Rama and the Albanian people as they stand up to Iran’s reckless behavior in Europe and across the globe,” he tweeted.
Qassemi said that Washington’s stance on the issue and Albania’s declaration that its move had been coordinated with foreign security services, prove that the US and the regime in Israel had been behind the expulsions.
Albania, he added, had fallen prey to a scenario fabricated by the US and the Israeli regime and certain terrorist groups.
The Iranian official further called on the Albanian government “to defend its sovereignty, independence and security” in the face of the US-Israeli scenario,” stressing that the country “must not allow others to affect and hamper its relations with Iran due to special political reasons.”
Albania has expelled Iran’s ambassador and another diplomat for “damaging its national security.”

Albania hosts thousands of members of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), a notorious anti-Iran terror group.
The MKO has carried out numerous attacks against Iranian civilians and government officials over the past three decades and is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community.
Out of the nearly 17,000 Iranians killed in terrorist assaults since the victory of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, about 12,000 have fallen victim to MKO’s acts of terror.
Albania is not the first European country to make such claims against Iran.
Back in June, Belgian authorities said that an Iranian diplomat had been arrested along with a 38-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, suspected of plotting a bomb attack on an MKO meeting in Paris attended by US President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and several former European and Arab ministers.
Assadollah Assadi, 46, was arrested in Germany and later extradited to Belgium in defiance of Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961.
Later on October 30, Danish intelligence chief Finn Borch Andersen claimed that an Iranian intelligence service had tried to carry out a plot to assassinate an Iranian Arab opposition figure on Denmark’s soil.
Swedish security police also said a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent had been arrested on October 21 in connection with the alleged plot and extradited to Denmark.
Israeli media later revealed that the Israeli spy agency Mossad had provided Denmark with “intelligence” concerning the alleged plot by Tehran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that Tel Aviv is behind what Iranian Foreign Minister described as “false flags” in Europe.
Tehran said “invisible hands” were at work to damage Iran’s ties with Europe at the time when the two sides are closely cooperating to save the 2015 multilateral nuclear deal following the US’s pullout.
On December 15, 2018, at a time when all Albania is protesting against the corrupt regime of the Resurgence government of Rama, and the Albanian people demand that the Rama government be dismissed, Rama’s Minister of the Diaspora instead of solving the Albanian students’ problems who are protesting against the government, has chosen to resolve Iran’s problems. Together with a bunch of international opportunists, Pandeli has gone to the annual meeting of Maryam Rajavi with her jihadists at the Mojahedin Camp in Manzas.
At this meeting, Pandeli has attacked the government of Iran and has expressed his support for the Iranian terrorist group that the corrupt Rama government harbors and enables with better conditions than Albanians in the jihadist camp in Manzas. Pandeli, who was cheered on by Iranian terrorists and the old terrorist old woman Rajavi, spoke in the jihadist tone, “Thank you very much”. Very excited and talking in broken English he said among other things:
“It’s a great honor as always to talk to you. Not as a minister or a former prime minister, but primarily as your friend. I know, as Mr Patrick Kennedy said earlier, it is a question why Albania has an Iranian official embassy in Tirana, and at the same time we host you. Why both? It’s a simple and honest question. And my answer is that we have had the official Tehran Embassy here for years, and they are here because of international law. But you are here for another cause. The Iranian Embassy represents the country today, while the MEK represents the Iran of the future.
“I am very proud that I and many of my friends are in the hands of Maryam Rajavi, one of the few women who will, with her leadership, change not only the future of Iran but also of the Middle East.
“I know that much news exists that says MEK is a terrorist group, they have done this and have done that. But this does not bother me at all! Because we know you, you came here under the umbrella of the UN and UNHCR. You and terrorism are two different things. You do not have diplomats who use diplomatic status to hide behind as terrorists. But some Iranian officials have done so. And acting like a terrorist while pretending to be a diplomat is a contradiction. But this is not up to me or Albanians, Iranian officials must give their full explanation. Things have changed, and times will change quickly. It is certain that the time is coming, and this piano melody that is playing here in Tirana will be sung throughout Iran as a song.
“I will not speak much, for many reasons, since today I did not know I even had to give a speech. But when you have friends like Hassan, who just said to me: ‘Pandeli, it’s your turn to talk’, believe me when I stand before you myself, a government official, but now that I have met you I know you very well and I’m sure that you and your families now understand that you are not just refugees like a few years ago, but you are now in your land. You have done in less than a year, performed a miracle by building a city. We Albanians say in Albanian: my home is my homeland. Albania is your homeland.“Thank you”
Pandeli’s speech was one of several at this meeting held by Maryam Rajavi – who along with the others cried over the problems of the Iranian people, people whom she, her husband and her jihadists have killed over the years. Maryam Rajavi’s lips did not mention anything about Albania, which is blocked by protesters demanding regime change. The whole problem for the old terrorists, but also Minister Pandeli Majko who eats Albanian bread, has been Iran.
Pandeli’s speech above, which broke international law and domestic law by saying ‘I do not care that you are terrorists, etc.’, tells of Rama’s arrogance, bribery and thievery. At a time when Tirana and all of Albania are consumed by protest, Pandeli and Maryam Rajavi have chosen to pretend to be a whore when a village burns.

It has been a terrible year for MEK as various media exposed the human rights violations in the organisation: National Geographic, NBC, Channel Four, the Independent, the Guardian, TRT World, Albawaba and others including Italian and Albanian media.
MEK tried to counter this with its own propaganda films designed to show Camp Ashraf 3 in Manez, Albania as a happy, friendly and well run refugee community.
First MEK invited American bomber L. Todd Wood to make a propaganda film in the camp. Then MEK arranged for a delegation of “former” German politicians to visit the camp, followed by “former” members of the European Parliament.
What the MEK did not expect was that these films would reveal even more scandalous and damning detail about life inside the camp. Exactly the opposite of their intended purpose.
For example:
The films clearly show the gender apartheid in operation in the camp, as male and female members are shown living completely separately.
Men and women perform gendered roles which expose the falsity of the MEK’s claim to feminism: men work on computers, women work in the sewing room.
The computer room, with its banks of computers and male operatives, revealed without doubt that the Twitter troll factory exposed by Al Jazeera was indeed in operation there.
The medical room and dentist were of particular concern since neither the so-called doctors nor the so-called dentists in the camp have full and proper medical qualifications.
However, the bakery, manned by elderly MEK members, was particularly revealing as it reminded us that none of the MEK in Albania have work permits or identity papers or travel documents, yet are working inside the camp. This is because none of the MEK in Albania are paid for the work they do. They are modern slaves. They do not get paid and therefore do not pay taxes. Which reminds us again that MEK never contribute to whatever society they forcefully embed themselves in. Rather than get their bread from a local Albanian bakery thus providing much needed income, they keep all their resources in-house.
But even these gaffes were not as embarrassing as the next film that MEK made to try to repair its image.
The MEK paid Sokol Balla, presenter of The Real Story in Vision Plus TV to make another film inside the camp. This time, MEK were careful to eliminate the previous gaffes outlined above. Instead, they introduced new gaffes.
After the MEK propaganda film was broadcast, viewers soon discovered that the presenter Sokol Balla had been involved in many sex scandals. Balla was revealed through a web chat in which he is filmed masturbating in front of an adolescent girl. This is not the first time MEK has had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find apologists. Who else would take money from a terrorist cult which enslaves its members except corrupt and morally bankrupt people?
But the best gaffe of all, which perhaps only an eagle-eyed nerd might discover, was when the MEK wanted to show that their members are free to leave the camp and go shopping. But the lonely man trudging up the road looking thoroughly defeated with his two shopping bags is carrying supplies of Tena incontinence pants.
Which begs the question, is this a camp where warriors and freedom fighters are striving to overthrow the Iranian government, or is it a residential care community for the elderly, ailing and disabled?

Mr SOKOL BALLA
President of Vision Plus TV in Albania
Mansour Nazari
I am Nazari Mansour, a former member of the MEK organization who separated many years ago from the Mojahedin-e Khalq.
You recently provided a report on the Mojahedin camp in Albania, but this report is not real. Why?
The MEK are trying to whitewash their past. Surely they have not told you anything about their past. Why?
This organization has a black history and for this reason the MEK organization is trying to erase it. Why? Because they have a terrible past of violence and terrorism.
Its terrorist operations targeted American-owned businesses, and it killed six American citizens, in addition to its far more numerous Iranian victims.
After the victory of the Iranian revolution and the beginning of the war between Iran and Iraq the MEK joined Saddam Hussein in Iraq. The Iraqi dictator also gave the group weapons, cash, and a compound called Camp Ashraf in return for its continuing attacks inside Iran as well as helping Saddam suppress his own domestic opponents.
Within this organization are many things that you have not been told, for example: compulsory divorce, meetings to confess dreams in which everyone must describe their dreams, family contact is forbidden, having a phone was forbidden. If anyone wanted to leave the organization, they would have to spend two years imprisoned in Ashraf, then eight years in Abu Ghraib prison, then be handed over to the Iranian government. WHY? Just because they want to leave the MEK organization.
I suggest that the next time you want to report about the MEK, it would be better to ask them about their past, about forced divorces, working with Saddam Hussein, and imprisonment and torture inside Camp Ashraf. And in addition, invite investigative delegations to establish the truth.
Yours Sincerely
Mansour Nazari

Dear Mr Sokol Balla, presenter of the Real Story in Vision Plus in Albania.
Mir Bagher Sedaghi
Your program was brought to my notice in which you visited the Mojahedin Khalq (MKO, MEK, NCRI, PMOI and many other pseudonyms) terrorist organisation and held an interview with Mr Hassan Naybagha.
I noted that Hassan Naybagha falsely claimed that all foreign media are now trying to mislead the international community and claimed not only that the group is not a military group but the group and its members in the camp are from among the intellectuals of Iranian society, who have only resisted the regime in Iran by intellectual means (not military).
As an ex-member of the Mojahedin Khalq Organisation (MEK, MKO, or more properly known as the Rajavi cult),I can testify to you that the MEK is nothing more or less than a terrorist group. When I was with the group, I was regularly encouraged to carry out violent acts of terrorism. I have also been witness to the despatch of MEK terror teams from Iraq to Iran to carry out bombing campaigns, using mortars to attack buildings in residential areas. I am available to testify in any court of justice should there be the opportunity.
Please don’t be fooled by the charm offensive of this terrorist cult. Due to the defeat of Saddam Hussein who was the benefactor and the main strategic ally of Mojahedin Khalq, the group is now incapable of taking up arms. But make no mistake, they still have the dangerous potential to start terrorist operations should the time and the place by favourable to them.

3- Ghafoor Fatahin, Peyvan Rahaee, Paris, December 02 2018
To officials of the Albanian Vizion Plus television network,
Respectful greetings,
Ghafoor Fatahian
I am Gafoor Fatahian, a former member of the Iranian People’s Mojahedin Khalq organization (MEK). I spent twenty years in the headquarters of this organization in Iraq and I am an eyewitness to this organization when they were sending terrorist teams into Iran to kill innocent civilians.
Moreover, MEK has eliminated many of its own members who opposed its leadership’s policies. They also imprisoned and tortured others. Many of my ex-comrades were killed inside the organization’s headquarters in Iraq by order of the leaders of the organization and by its executioners who are now in the headquarters of the organization in your country, Albania.
I am an eyewitness to the repressive practices against members within the organization. They isolated them from the outside world, especially from their families in Iran and other countries.
In fact, the real MEK is not the one spoken of by Maryam Rajavi in Europe in the present, using the buzzwords of the free world to say her organization is committed to democracy, freedom and human rights in an attempt to win support from America and European countries.
What is going on behind the scenes and behind the barbed wire surrounding the headquarters of this organization is very serious and terrible and is intended to keep the members of the organization as prisoners held inside its headquarters in Albania.
This organization is no longer a political organization fighting for the establishment of democracy and freedom in Iran, but it has been transformed into a special community by its leaders, headed by Maryam Rajavi with beliefs, ideas and duties contrary to the principles and norms of humanity and universality in the present age. For this reason and for many other reasons, including the cooperation of the organization and its alliance with the regime of Saddam Hussein and its army and its financial, military and political dependence on foreigners, the MEK has lost its popular base among Iranians inside and outside Iran, even active opponents against the regime in Iran.
Hatred toward this organization and the atmosphere of alienation and opposition prevailing within the ranks of the organization among its members, has also led to the separation of more than two thousand members of the Organization over the past thirty years. In particular after the expulsion of the organization from Iraq and transfer to Albania whereby hundreds of members have now separated from the organization and are living in the Albanian capital, Tirana. And, if you want to prove your journalistic neutrality, you can interview these members who are separated from the organization in your country. They can tell you many facts about this organization so that you will discover that everything in your report about the organization’s headquarters in Albania is nothing but fabricated lies, artificial acts and false statements uttered by the leaders of the organization who wanted to display a fiction in front of your cameras.
This dangerous terrorist community has never renounced its violent ideas and terrorist tendencies because its ideas were built on the basis of terrorism, armed struggle and violence, not freedom and democracy, which it praises in its hollow slogans.
Gafoor Fatahian is a former member of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.

MEK with a history of terrorist is very dangerous, in the sight of the people of Iran, sorely hated. From the other side of the MEK by becoming a cult fanatics member himself about the most violent vexation, Singapore, gives, implying that members of the Liberator, had cut the minimum rights of members to ignore and not recognize. Even allowed to meet with the families and their loved ones to make excuses, wishful thinking has forbidden.

This cult basic transition operation a tehari in the world has gotten 38 years before the venture into operation a tehari in Iran and Europe.
The cult communities of the Iranians inside the country and out of country no place, and from the perspective of the people of Iran, this cult acutely unpopular and treacherous can be considered. Officials of the MKO with the costs of operation and through the media tried to downplay and white storage past full of killing and bloody. The case touts that in any way with the water hundred the sea of time, the White will not. This cult lacks the minimum principles of political is absolutely no Honesty in it, there is no continuous Heart and shanties and lie is trying to show with your silly Red Keep. A recent report from The Guardian has uncovered systematic human rights abuse in the Albanian camp of the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), a former Iranian terrorist organization exiled from Iraq to Albania. As Exit has reported over the last years, multiple high-ranking US politicians have visited the MEK in Albania, as US administration’s interest in overturning the Iranian regime have grown.
The article in The Guardian reveals that members of the MEK have started to defect, many of whom end up in Tirana on their way to emigrate to EU countries or the US. These defectors have reported continuous human rights abuses within the Albanian MEK camp:
[T]he move from Iraq to the relative safety of Albania has precipitated a wave of defections. Those with means have fled the country to the EU and the US, but around 120 recent MEK escapees remain in Tirana with no right to work or emigrate. I spoke to about a dozen defectors, half of whom are still in Albania, who said that MEK commanders systematically abused members to silence dissent and prevent defections – using torture, solitary confinement, the confiscation of assets and the segregation of families to maintain control over members. […]
The testimony of these recent defectors follows earlier reports from groups such as Human Rights Watch, which reported former members witnessed “beatings, verbal and psychological abuse, coerced confessions, threats of execution and torture that in two cases led to death.”
The MEK camp appearsto fall “beyond the jurisdiction of the Albanian police”:
Ylli Zyla, who served as head of Albanian military intelligence from 2008 to 2012, accused the MEK of violating Albanian law. “Members of this organisation live in Albania as hostages,” he told me. Its camp, he said, was beyond the jurisdiction of Albanian police and “extraordinary psychological violence and threats of murder” took place inside.
The Albanian government, meanwhile, turns a blind eye to the human rights abuses on its territory, hoping that hosting the MEK will give them leverage over the US government:
Olsi Jazexhi, a professor of history at the University of Durres critical of the government’s decision to accept the MEK fighters, says that Albanian politicians hoped the deal would lead the US to turn a blind eye to their own corruption. “The MEK is a card which gives them leverage with the United States,” he said. “They think that by taking the MEK, the Americans will leave their business alone.”
Full protection of human rights is one of the five key conditions for opening EU accession negotiations. It seems that, once again, the Albanian government fails to honor its obligations in that regard.
Exit, Explaining Albania,
Since the relocation of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ Cult of Rajavi) in Albania, the co-leader Maryam Rajavi has traveled from Paris to Tirana several times. She usually travels to Tirana for especial occasions such as New Year’s celebration or to receive the paid American supporters of the group who are invited to the base. One instance was Senator John McCain who visited Maryam Rajavi in the group’s base in Tirana in April 2017.
According to the insiders of the MKO, Maryam Rajavi is once more in Tirana but it seems that this time the trip has a different reason. She is residing at International Hotel, Tirana where she holds meetings with commanders and senior members of the group.
What has driven her to the group’s base in Albania and stay there for a long period of time? She might have found it vital to reorganize her group in the absence of her disappeared husband Massoud Rajavi.
The major reason might be the increasing number of defection from the group. During the past week, at least three ex-members of the group officially announced their disassociation from the MKO and declared their readiness to denounce its abusive and violent nature. Azim MishMast, GholamAli Mirzaiee and Musa Damrudi are the most recently defected ones. All of the three were among the longstanding members of the group who left it after at least three decades.
These are just a few examples of those who officially declared their defection. Definitely, the number of defectors are far more than what is broadcasted in the media. Once the MKO was resettled in Albania, the situation became safer for defectors compared with Iraq where most members were terrified by the leaders for what they called the influence of the Iranian regime—however, hundreds of members of the MKO left the group in Iraq, especially after the disarmament of the group by the US military in 2003.
After the relocation in Albania, a large number left the group secretly and in silence. Zeinab Hosseinnejad whose father Ghorbanali had left the group a few years earlier, could manage to leave the MKO and move to Greece. Her defection was not covered in the media until last week that her sister Mona and her father travelled to Greece to visit her. The tragic videos of the reunion of the Hosseinnejads after so many years of separation was widely viewed in the social media.
Today, Maryam Rajavi’s primary struggle is the preservation of members inside the cult-like structure of the group. As she tries to convince members to stay in the organization, her so-called struggle for freedom and democracy makes no sense.
In fact, while she uses the group’s propaganda tribunes to boast of her riot units (or the so-called resistance units) in Iran, she actually is fighting the resistance units that has been established by the suppressed members inside her group.
An insider from the group has revealed that long-time manipulative meetings are organized in the group’s headquarters in Manez Durres in North of Tirana. The MKO’s secretary General Zahra Merikhi runs the sessions in which she accuses members for not being enough dedicated to the cult jargon “Cleansing on the Scene”.
Cleansing on the Scene includes self-disclosure of sexual thoughts. Members have to disclose all their sexual thoughts and desires before their peers and peers, in their turn, are tasked with verbally abusing them. This is a process of cleansing to win the struggle against Iranian regime, according to the leaders of the MKO.
The prominent paid supporter of the MKO John Bolton promised the overthrow of the Islamic Republic before 2019, in a paid speech at the group’s rally in July 2017. Now, there are only two months left to the promised moment. The group leaders have to endeavor a big challenge to keep the members in order to prevent the collapse of their establishment, let alone the overthrow of the Iranian Government.
