Vice President of Iranian Canadian Congress, Mona Ghassemi has sent a letter to The Honourable Marc Miller regarding Concerns of Potential Immigration of MEK Members to Canada.
Dear Minister Miller,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing on behalf of the Iranian Canadian Congress to express our deep concern over recent Iranian media reports suggesting that the leaders of the People’s Mojahedin Khalq (MEK) have made plans to transfer their headquarters to Canada. We acknowledge that the accuracy of this news remains uncertain, and we trust in the competence of Canadian authorities in conducting the necessary investigations.
The MEK organization’s history and actions have raised significant alarm within the community, considering their previous inclusion on Canada’s terrorist list until 2012. The potential immigration of individuals associated with such an organization to Canada is worrying not only for Iranian Canadians, but also for the broader Canadian community.
Our organization greatly values the efforts made by the Government of Canada to uphold the principles of safety, security, and human rights. We kindly urge you to address this matter promptly by conducting a thorough investigation into the validity of the media reports. Furthermore, we request that you reassure the Iranian Canadian community and the broader Canadian public, by committing not to provide a safe haven for individuals or groups with a history of terrorist acts. We firmly believe in the dedication of Canadian authorities to meticulously assess immigration files and to ensure that individuals entering our country do not pose a threat to the safety and well-being of our society.
