Iraqi government asked the United Nations Security Council to help it to expel all members of Mujahidin Khalq Organization (MKO) from Iraq.
Iraqi Ambassador to the UN Hamid al-Bayati told the UN Security Council session on Tuesday that with the help of UN Cooperation Delegation for Iraq and efforts of the UN Secretary General Special representative Martin Kobler, 1200 MKO members can be transferred from Ashraf Camp to a transit one.
He added that Iraq government asks the UN Security Council to help transfer and settlement of all members of the group in other countries.
The ambassador underlined that upon Iraqi Constitution, the government cannot allow the group to stay inside the Iraq territory.
On the crisis in Iraq’s western neighbor, Syria, al-Bayati said that since the beginning of the crisis, Iraq has always declared its unwillingness to use military to confront with people’s demands for freedom and democracy.
He added that Iraq called Syrian government and opposition groups to avoid using military operations, because such measures will lead to spresd of conflicts and push the country into civil war.
The ambassador said our historical and moral duty requires to put pressure on both sides to stop violation.
He concluded that negotiation will be the best solution to Syrian crisis and Iraq strongly supports the UN and Arab League Special Envoy Kofi Annan to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
