Iraq’s Just Decision on Mojahedin

Quoting the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki reported by ISNA, Iran Focus, MKO’s mouthpiece, announced that the country was working to end the presence of the Mojahedin terrorist group on Iraq’s territory. “It was decided to limit the actions of this group and confine them to Camp Ashraf, north of Iraq, and prevent their contacts with ministers and government agencies”, al-Maliki said.

in a statement issued by the group, Mojahedin claim that “any action against the PMOI represents nothing but the demands and wishes of the theocracy ruling Iran that have been conveyed to the Iraqi Prime Minister by discredited “security agencies”. A terrorist group under the protection of coalition forces so insolently questions the new Iraqi government’s volition and condemns it to be under the influence of the neighbor country.

“Among the restrictions is a clampdown on the rights of the PMOI to distribute statements in Iraq”, al-Maliki said. It is a precise decision because the Iraqi government is well aware of Mojahedin’s persuasive propaganda machine. In June, Mojahedin, enjoying the protection of the occupying forces, held a gathering in Camp Ashraf announcing that some 5.2 million Iraqis had signed a petition supporting the right of PMOI members to political asylum in the country. But the group can never answer the question what is it afraid of when it has a claimed, guaranteed support of 5.2 million Iraqis? Neither the gathering nor the statement are authorized by the Iraqi government.

Mojahedin’s problem lies in the fact that they have not yet come to recognize the national-elected Iraqi government in a hope of a favorite change. They believe “The Multi-National Force-Iraq has the responsibility to protect them. Violating these rights would be considered a war crime”. Mojahedin have no choice but to submit to the will of Iraqi people and their elected, legal government because they are living on the expense of Iraqi people and any responsible government has the right to protect its nation against the threats of terrorists. Evacuation of the occupying forces gives the Iraqi government to have a just deal with all suspected groups enjoying protected status.
